Gold is what I always had trouble understanding it's fundamentals. Besides making jewleries and some industrial use, all gold ingots are sitting in the central banks, for what? keeping value? I had hard time visualizing it. Every once of gold that's ever beening refined exists, we don't consume gold.

That's been said, I did buy some Chinese Olympics Gold Coins. :-)
